The Panthers set an aggressive tone immediately when Jahbari Kuykendall returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, energizing both sidelines. This marked a stark contrast to the previous year’s matchup, which came down to the final play, with Prairie View prevailing 22-21.
The Panthers maintained their offensive momentum throughout the contest. After leading 17-7 at halftime, Prairie View outscored Texas Southern 28-0 during the third quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach. Quarterback Tevin Carter was instrumental in the offensive explosion, throwing four touchdown passes and adding one rushing score under second-year head coach Tremaine Jackson. Carter connected with Travon Jones twice through the air, while also finding Damien McDaniel and Chase Bingmon for scores.
A lightning delay of 57 minutes suspended play with the Panthers already holding a 17-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
