Dyson has announced the CameraJet, a $499.99 electric toothbrush equipped with artificial intelligence and an integrated camera system. The device, which becomes available for pre-order immediately and launches officially on September 8, combines tooth brushing with water flossing capabilities. The innovative design has sparked considerable debate about whether the premium price point and advanced features justify the expense for consumers.
The CameraJet utilizes a 100,000-pixel macro camera that analyzes 28 images per second to detect gaps between teeth. When spaces are identified, the device releases a precision water jet within 100 milliseconds to remove plaque from hard-to-reach areas. The toothbrush also features variable sonic oscillation bristles and houses a zero-gravity mouthrinse chamber. According to the manufacturer, the technology represents six years of development and incorporates 16 million lines of code trained on nearly half a million dental images.
The product connects to a smartphone application via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, functioning as a dental endoscope that allows users to view their teeth in real-time through the MyDyson app. However, some observers question whether consumers genuinely desire such advanced technology in their daily oral hygiene routine. The device marks another entry into the growing market of artificial intelligence-enhanced beauty and grooming products, following similar innovations from competitors in the personal care industry.
The CameraJet will be available in ceramic pink and ceramic ultra blue colorways through Dyson’s official website, Amazon, and select retailers.
