Netflix and Blizzard Entertainment have announced plans to develop an animated television series based on the renowned “Diablo” video game franchise. The upcoming show will be set in Sanctuary, the series’ dark fictional realm where humanity finds itself trapped between two opposing supernatural forces: the High Heavens and the Burning Hells.
Blizzard President Johanna Faries revealed the project during BlizzCon 2026’s opening ceremony at the Anaheim Convention Center. The company indicated this represents part of a broader strategy to expand its gaming universes across different entertainment mediums beyond traditional video games. While specific details remain limited, Blizzard representatives stated additional information will be disclosed at a later date.
The “Diablo” franchise carries significant historical weight in gaming, with the original title launching in 1996. The most recent installment, “Diablo IV,” arrived in 2023. The Netflix adaptation announcement comes as Blizzard Entertainment operates under Microsoft ownership, following the tech giant’s completion of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023.
