The Detroit Lions have placed edge rusher Payton Turner on injured reserve, effectively sidelining him for the 2026 season. Turner, who was signed during the offseason to add depth to the defensive line, suffered a back injury during training camp that prevented him from competing for a roster spot.
Turner’s injury marks the second consecutive season he has been unable to contribute on the field. The 27-year-old also missed the entire 2025 campaign while with the Dallas Cowboys due to a rib injury. Originally selected in the first round by the New Orleans Saints in 2021, Turner has appeared in 31 career games and recorded five sacks along with 11 quarterback hits throughout his professional tenure.
In a corresponding roster move, the Lions signed defensive back Eric Scott Jr. to their 90-man roster. The team continues to navigate injuries as it prepares for its preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday before making final roster cuts ahead of the regular season.
