The Blue Hens will face Merrimack in their season opener on Thursday, September 3 at Delaware Stadium. While the Warriors finished 4-8 last season, they showed resilience in close contests, including a narrow loss to Kent State and a competitive matchup against eventual Conference USA champion Kennesaw State. This marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Delaware’s passing attack, led by quarterback Nick Minicucci, figures to be the offensive centerpiece against Merrimack’s strong pass defense. However, the Blue Hens’ linebacker corps, anchored by Gavin Moul, should effectively contain the Warriors’ ground game. The matchup will test whether Delaware can maintain offensive consistency while the visiting team continues integrating new roster components.
Following this non-conference tune-up, Delaware will have additional preparation time before Conference USA play begins in October. The schedule features five road games among the next eight contests, including a trip to Vanderbilt.
