The Fugees took the stage at 10 p.m. local time to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their album “The Score.” However, due to a noise ordinance licensing requirement, the pair was limited to just one hour of performance time. When organizers shut down the sound equipment at the scheduled cutoff, Chappelle voiced his frustration, asserting that the festival had made a significant mistake by silencing the performers at such a crucial moment.
Hill later acknowledged the incident on social media, apologizing to surprise guests who were unable to perform due to the time constraint. She emphasized that the festival represented a larger celebration of diaspora culture and creativity, and indicated organizers would host another event to provide the complete experience originally planned. A message displayed at the venue explained that the abrupt conclusion was necessary to comply with local licensing agreements requiring the show to end by 11 p.m.
