Curtis Jones has completed his transfer from Liverpool to Inter Milan in a deal valued at €30 million. The Italian club will have the opportunity to earn an additional €5 million through performance-based add-ons, while Liverpool secured a 10 percent sell-on clause for any future transfer of the midfielder.
The 25-year-old midfielder was approaching the final year of his contract at Anfield, presenting Liverpool with the difficult choice of either selling him this summer or risking losing him without compensation. Although the club had previously turned down a €25 million offer from Inter in June, Jones expressed his desire to pursue the opportunity. Head coach Andoni Iraola acknowledged understanding the player’s decision despite initially hoping to retain him.
Jones’ departure marks the end of a significant 16-year relationship with his hometown club, during which he made 228 appearances. Liverpool do not plan to bring in a replacement midfielder, as Iraola expressed confidence in young prospect Trey Nyoni following his impressive performances during pre-season training. Instead, the club is prioritizing the acquisition of wingers to strengthen that position, with rejected bids already submitted for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and continued interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.
