Cinema Guild, an independent film distributor, has secured North American distribution rights for the documentary “For the Moon,” directed by filmmaker Éric Baudelaire. The film is scheduled to make its premiere in the Currents section at the upcoming New York Film Festival.
“For the Moon” represents a collaborative project developed with five visually impaired students enrolled at the National Institute for the Young Blind in Paris. Shot on location at the institute, the documentary blends observational filmmaking with creative experimentation, exploring how perception and visual understanding function when senses beyond sight become primary. The work challenges conventional notions of how we perceive and construct images of the world around us.
Baudelaire, a Paris-based artist and filmmaker born in the United States, has previously directed acclaimed films including “The Anabasis of May and Fusako Shigenobu, Masao Adachi and 27 Years Without Images,” “Letters to Max,” and “A Flower in the Mouth.” His work has been featured at major film festivals worldwide, including venues in Locarno, Toronto, and Rotterdam. Cinema Guild President Peter Kelly expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, praising the collaborative effort and the filmmakers’ distinctive approach to their craft.
