Chris Hansen has weighed in on Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of him in the upcoming A24 film “Primetime,” a drama-thriller based on Hansen’s experience hosting Dateline NBC’s “To Catch a Predator.” In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hansen acknowledged that Pattinson clearly invested effort into crafting the impression, though he felt the actor’s take leaned toward exaggeration.
Despite his initial reservations about the performance being overly theatrical, Hansen noted that his perspective may not be the most reliable measure of accuracy. His wife and children have reportedly offered more positive feedback, viewing Pattinson’s interpretation as a fairly convincing representation. Hansen emphasized that his personal opinion matters less than how audiences ultimately respond to the film.
Hansen also clarified important distinctions between the movie and reality, pointing out that Pattinson’s character says and does things Hansen never actually did. He stressed his belief that audiences should approach the film as fiction inspired by true events rather than a documentary account. Hansen previously declined to view the film after A24 asked him to sign away certain rights during a private screening.
