A legal dispute is intensifying over the financial management of Elijah Blue Allman, the adult son of music icon Cher. The singer has sought to establish a conservatorship to oversee her son’s affairs, citing concerns about his mental health and substance abuse issues. However, Allman’s wife, Marieangela King Allman, has filed formal opposition to Cher’s petition in California court, arguing that she should be granted authority instead.
King Allman contends that she dismissed divorce proceedings earlier in the year at her husband’s request and therefore holds priority as his spouse to manage his finances. She asserts that Elijah Blue Allman faces no immediate danger while currently housed in a New Hampshire psychiatric facility, where he is facing criminal charges related to incidents that occurred in February, including allegations of trespassing and breaking and entering.
In her court filing, King Allman expressed concern that appointing a conservator selected by Cher could undermine her husband’s recovery prospects and autonomy. She noted that her finances are substantially connected to his and that she could bear responsibility for his tax obligations. Additionally, she is challenging a separate guardianship arrangement in New Hampshire that was granted to Allman’s siblings without her knowledge or notice.
