Studio 100 Film has announced the addition of “Juul,” a computer-animated feature film, to its international sales catalog ahead of the Toronto Film Festival. The project marks a significant addition to the distributor’s lineup and will be showcased to potential buyers during the festival. The production boasts an accomplished creative team, with British actor Lenny Henry lending his voice to the English-language version and Grammy-winning musicians Michael League and Bob Lanzetti of Snarky Puppy composing the original score.
Directed by Tom Van Gestel and written by An De Gruyter, “Juul” tells the story of a teenage circus performer who experiences a catastrophic accident that leaves her in a comatose state. Her father, facing financial desperation, makes an ethically troubling choice to remove her from the hospital and present her as a puppet act to save the struggling circus. Though physically immobilized, the protagonist remains mentally aware, and her psychological resistance manifests as her body gradually transforms into porcelain—a visual representation of her internal struggle for autonomy.
The film is currently in production with completion expected in the final quarter of 2026. Multiple European production companies collaborated on the project, including studios from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Ireland. Studio 100 Film will manage worldwide distribution rights, with the exception of the filmmakers’ home territories. Company representatives highlighted the film’s combination of sophisticated animation, emotional resonance, and thematic complexity as reflective of contemporary animated storytelling.
