Bijan Robinson, now a standout running back for the Atlanta Falcons, will receive a significant honor from his high school roots. Salpointe Catholic in Tucson, Arizona announced Thursday that Robinson’s No. 5 jersey will be retired during an upcoming school assembly. The NFL star will return to campus to participate in the celebration of his legacy as a Lancer.
Robinson’s high school career was nothing short of exceptional. During his time at Salpointe Catholic, he established an Arizona state record with 7,036 rushing yards and 114 total touchdowns across his four seasons with the program. His final three years showcased his dominance, as he surpassed 2,000 rushing yards each season. In his senior year alone, Robinson accumulated 2,235 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns while adding 12 receptions for 314 yards and three additional scores.
The distinction extended beyond his high school accomplishments. Robinson earned Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year honors during his senior campaign in 2020 and was ranked as the nation’s 16th overall prospect and second-ranked running back in that recruiting class. His efficiency was remarkable, averaging over 17 yards per carry in his final season and maintaining an average exceeding 13 yards per carry throughout his 46-game career with the Lancers.
The school expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Robinson back, stating that the honor recognizes both his on-field achievements and off-field character. The retirement of his jersey cements Robinson’s place among the greatest athletes to ever wear a Salpointe Catholic uniform.
