Barcelona’s Serielizados festival has unveiled the slate for the second edition of its Mind the Gap co-production pitch competition, featuring projects from established and emerging creators across Europe and beyond. Among the selected participants are renowned Catalan filmmaker Carlos Marques-Marcet, making his television showrunning debut, and sister duo Mireia and Joana Vilapuig. The international competition will showcase eleven projects representing countries including Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Mexico, Portugal, and Galicia.
The Mind the Gap initiative aims to support high-quality series projects in their financing stages by connecting them with industry partners and potential collaborators. This year’s competition saw submissions more than double compared to its inaugural outing, drawing from a wider geographical area. Eight of the selected projects emerged from open calls, while three received invitations from European industry organizations including Seriencamp and ECAM Forum.
Two notable Spanish entries include “Callback,” a psychological drama examining the complexities of abuse dynamics, and “Act of Faith,” a political thriller that reimagines undercover police stories from the perspective of victims and loved ones affected by infiltration operations. A distinguished international jury representing major production and distribution companies will evaluate the pitches, awarding a €5,500 prize to the winning project, with an additional €2,000 award reserved specifically for the best Spanish submission.
The festival’s professional programming will also feature masterclasses led by acclaimed industry figures, including “Sherlock” showrunner Steven Moffat and “In Treatment” creator Hagai Levi, running alongside the pitch presentations from October 21-24.
