Apple has announced two new desktop computers featuring advanced processors designed to enhance performance and artificial intelligence capabilities. The company unveiled the M6 Mac mini, starting at $899, and the M5 Ultra Mac Studio, beginning at $5,499. According to Apple’s leadership, these chips represent “the next giant leap in performance and AI compute,” with the M5 Ultra being described as the company’s most powerful processor to date.
The M6 chip, making its debut in the Mac mini, utilizes a cutting-edge 2-nanometer manufacturing process—an advancement from the 3-nanometer technology used in previous generations. This compact design delivers significant improvements, including up to four times faster artificial intelligence performance and up to two times faster graphics compared to the M4 model. The base configuration includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with the option to expand to 32GB of RAM. Apple also offers an M5 Pro variant starting at $1,699 for users with more demanding requirements. Both versions feature WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, and enhanced Ethernet connectivity options.
The Mac Studio’s M5 Ultra represents a technological milestone as Apple’s first processor featuring quad-die architecture. This design provides up to 36 CPU cores, 80 GPU cores, and support for up to 512GB of unified memory. The system delivers up to 4.5 times faster artificial intelligence computation and up to 40 percent faster graphics performance compared to its predecessor. Preorders are available immediately through Apple’s website, with both devices shipping beginning September 22.
