Actor Andrew Scott is returning to the stage for a revival of the one-man play “Sea Wall,” which will run for a limited engagement in New York this fall. The production will take place at Studio Seaview from October 16 through October 30, featuring 19 performances of the 50-minute monologue.
The theatrical run marks a significant undertaking, as it will simultaneously be filmed for a feature film adaptation. Director Tina Satter, a Peabody Award winner, is helming both the stage production and the movie. According to producers, the film will be conceived as a documentary about theatrical creation, capturing not only Scott’s performances but also backstage moments, audience reactions, and the complete theatrical experience across all performances.
Scott portrays Alex, a photographer whose family life is disrupted by unforeseen circumstances in the play written by Tony-winning playwright Simon Stephens. The piece was originally commissioned in 2008 by London’s Bush Theatre under unique circumstances—the theater needed a work that could be performed in natural daylight following flood damage to its lighting systems. Scott previously performed the role in a 2018 revival at The Old Vic in London.
Tickets for the New York engagement are currently available. The production brings together a creative team including lighting designer Isabella Byrd and sound designer Ben Williams, with Paul Yee serving as director of photography for the film.
