Of that amount, approximately $167,000 could not be justified as legitimate business expenses. Additionally, Helm allegedly withdrew nearly $200,000 in loans from her father’s estate, which prevented musicians from receiving royalties for four years.
The dispute involves broader tensions between Helm and other stakeholders, including her stepmother Sandra Helm and musician Brian Parillo. The lawsuit references a May incident captured on security footage in which Helm allegedly confronted her stepmother and shoved Parillo. The complaint also includes trademark infringement claims regarding Helm’s continued use of the “Midnight Ramble” concert series name, which originated during her father’s lifetime.
Financial records show the studio’s losses escalated significantly during Helm’s tenure, growing from approximately $14,000 in 2017 to $308,000 by 2022. Helm has previously countered with accusations of her own, claiming financial exploitation and elder abuse against Parillo.
