This week features several compelling high school sporting matchups across the region. The Ashley White Invitational on Saturday brings together some of the area’s top cross country programs, including Crestwood, Field, Garfield, Southeast, and Streetsboro. Recent standouts from the Billy Goat Challenge competition include Streetsboro’s male runners and Crestwood’s female athletes, who will look to build on their strong early-season performances at the invitational.
Thursday’s athletic calendar is particularly crowded, headlined by a pair of highly anticipated soccer contests. Field and Roosevelt’s girls and boys soccer teams will face off in Kent, with both matchups featuring undefeated squads. The Field boys have maintained their undefeated record while Roosevelt has been equally competitive, with these programs having played each other in three consecutive seasons with remarkably close outcomes. Meanwhile, Cloverleaf and Streetsboro’s girls soccer rivalry continues with another chapter, as these conference rivals have met in the last three league tournament championships.
Rounding out Thursday’s slate, Aurora and Kenston volleyball programs will reunite on the court in a rematch of last year’s regional semifinal. Both teams boast talented rosters with strong hitters and setters who have already recorded impressive statistics early in the season. The matchup promises to be equally competitive as their previous postseason encounter.
