Yemen’s Houthi rebels have carried out fresh ballistic missile strikes targeting the Red Sea port city of al-Makha and residential zones in the central city of Marib, according to accusations from the armed forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government. Officials did not immediately confirm whether Monday’s attacks resulted in casualties.
The assault represents the second consecutive day of Houthi strikes on al-Makha, following Sunday’s attack that killed at least seven people and wounded approximately 30 others. That previous strike inflicted significant destruction to the port infrastructure. Additionally, a separate drone attack by Houthi forces in the south-central province of Shabwa on Monday killed two government soldiers and injured seven more.
In response, Yemeni government forces reported conducting strikes against Houthi positions across multiple locations, including eastern al-Jawf province, northwestern Saada province, and parts of central Marib. The escalating cycle of attacks marks the most severe violence in years, reigniting a conflict that had been relatively contained since a ceasefire agreement in April 2022. United Nations officials have expressed serious alarm about the situation, warning that Yemen faces unprecedented risk of large-scale renewed warfare and potential involvement in broader regional instability.
