KC Global Media Asia has completed production on “VIII: Awakening,” a fantasy adventure series that draws inspiration from classical Chinese mythology. The project represents the company’s inaugural original production based in China and consists of 24 episodes, each running 15 minutes in length for the first season.
The narrative centers on Lu Xian, an insurance investigator who discovers he possesses an unusual precognitive ability and learns of his connection to an ancient protective guardian lineage. Joined by seven companions, Lu Xian must confront a group of imprisoned dragons attempting to escape their confinement while navigating treachery within his own circle. The ensemble cast features Zhang Wan Ying, Leo Zhou, and Nick Shan in key roles, with director Yu Ji helming the series.
The production blends elements of suspense, fantasy, and humor while exploring themes of supernatural beings wielding extraordinary powers to combat evil. According to Bonnie Wiryani, vice president and head of content sales, the company sees significant potential in the project’s cross-cultural appeal and envisions expanding the narrative into a broader fictional universe.
The series is a collaborative effort between CICC and Shanghai Qi’Ai Film & Television Culture, with KC Global Media Asia managing international distribution. The partnership underscores the company’s strategic expansion into original content creation and reflects its commitment to delivering culturally resonant stories to worldwide audiences.
