The United States Supreme Court has declined to reconsider Donald Trump’s challenge to a jury verdict from 2023 that found him responsible for sexually abusing writer E Jean Carroll. The justices issued an unsigned order Monday rejecting the request without explanation, marking the second time the court has refused to hear Trump’s appeal of the case.
The ruling preserves a $5 million civil judgment against Trump that resulted from a jury trial nearly three years ago. Carroll’s legal team celebrated the decision, noting that the verdict is now final and cannot be overturned through further court proceedings. Trump had previously requested the Supreme Court review the case in 2025 and overturn the jury’s findings, but his petition was denied in June before he asked the justices to reconsider.
Trump has deposited the judgment amount into a court account and the funds, totaling approximately $5.6 million including interest, were released to Carroll’s legal team following the court’s June decision. An appeals court panel had previously upheld the jury verdict in 2024. Additionally, Carroll pursued a separate defamation claim that resulted in an $83.3 million judgment against Trump, which is currently under appeal at the Supreme Court.
