The European football governing body is in active talks with CONCACAF, which represents countries across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean region.
According to sources, such an expansion could materialize as soon as the 2028-29 edition of the competition. The initiative reflects a broader collaborative effort between UEFA and CONCACAF leadership, with both presidents reportedly believing Infantino should step down from his position rather than pursue re-election. This stance follows significant backlash against Infantino’s controversial proposal to involve private investors in World Cup operations and other FIFA-related ventures. The Asian Football Confederation is also said to be participating in these discussions, though any potential participation would occur at a later stage.
The expanded tournament would integrate smoothly into the existing international calendar, with league matches scheduled during autumn 2028 windows and finals taking place in March and June 2029.
