Amazon-owned Twitch has activated a feature that uses creator content to train artificial intelligence models, with the setting enabled by default for all users. The “Training for Generative AI” option, discovered recently by content creators, permits the platform to utilize channel material for developing AI tools. According to Twitch’s documentation, this training could improve various applications including speech-to-text technology and caption generation across both Twitch and Amazon’s broader ecosystem.
The decision to enable this feature automatically has drawn significant criticism from the creator community. During a recent livestream, Twitch’s chief product officer Mike Minton acknowledged the controversial choice, explaining that activating the setting by default was intentional because most users would decline participation if required to manually opt in.
For creators wishing to prevent their content from being used for AI training, the process involves navigating to account settings. Users should access their profile menu, select Settings, then proceed to Security and Privacy, where they can toggle off the “Training for Generative AI” feature. Twitch has confirmed that disabling this option will not impact existing AI-powered channel features such as automatic captions and safety tools.
