White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced her resignation Wednesday, with President Trump confirming her departure by the end of August. The 28-year-old official cited her desire to prioritize her family as the reason for stepping down from the demanding position.
Leavitt’s decision comes less than a month after she returned from maternity leave following the birth of her daughter in May. In a statement, she explained that balancing motherhood with the intensive responsibilities of the press secretary role proved challenging, noting that she could not give her two young children the attention they deserve while maintaining the demanding schedule required by her job.
Trump indicated that Leavitt will transition into a new role as one of his top outside advisors, working with the Republican Party to support their midterm election efforts in November. Since assuming the press secretary position when Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, Leavitt had become the youngest person ever to hold that title, breaking previous records in the administration.
