A new documentary examining Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker’s survival of a devastating 2008 plane crash will arrive on streaming platforms this week. Titled “Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear,” the film was co-directed by Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer and premiered at the Tribeca Festival earlier this year. The project explores Barker’s journey through the aftermath of the accident, including his emotional and physical recovery.
The documentary features candid insights from those close to Barker, including bandmates Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge, his wife Kourtney Kardashian, and late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. In promotional materials, Barker discusses the severe injuries and psychological toll from the crash, which claimed the lives of his assistant and bodyguard. He also opens up about his subsequent struggles with substance abuse, revealing at one point he required constant supervision due to painkiller dependence.
The tragedy resurfaced deeply personal reflections for Barker, particularly following the death of fellow crash survivor DJ AM one year later from accidental drug overdose. During a recent podcast appearance, Barker reflected on warnings he received before boarding the flight, even mentioning his young daughter’s inexplicable distress that day. “Louder Than Fear” arrives on Hulu and Disney+ on August 13.
