Brazilian actress Maria Fernanda Cândido, who gained international recognition following her prominent role in the Oscar-nominated film “The Secret Agent,” has been cast to lead “Lost Objects,” a new project from acclaimed director Luiz Fernando Carvalho. The production is already underway and brings together several talented performers, including theatre actor André Frateschi, emerging talent Marcela Vivan Russo, and French actor Maurice Durozier. Academia de Filmes, part of the INK Studios group, is producing the film.
Described as a modern dystopian fable, “Lost Objects” explores themes of love and connection in an imagined future. The narrative follows a couple whose relationship deteriorates during a mysterious blackout, prompting them to search for one another across a fragmented world. Carvalho characterizes the film as “chemical fiction,” positioning it as a contemporary parable examining how love continues to shape human existence and imagination.
This collaboration marks the third partnership between Cândido and Carvalho, following their acclaimed 2023 adaptation of Clarice Lispector’s “The Passion According to G.H.” The actress describes the two films as forming a “diptych,” with “Lost Objects” representing an enchanted narrative that complements her previous work with the director. The timing is significant, as Cândido is set to receive the prestigious Crystal Kikito award at the upcoming Gramado Film Festival, honoring her distinguished career in Brazilian and international cinema.
