Charlotte MacInnes has filed an appeal challenging an Australian court’s decision to dismiss her defamation lawsuit against Rebel Wilson. The actress, who appeared in Wilson’s directorial film “The Deb,” submitted her notice of appeal to the Full Court of the Federal Court the day after the initial ruling favored Wilson. In her appeal, MacInnes contends that Wilson provided “false evidence” and made “dishonest statements” during the original trial proceedings.
The lawsuit centered on Instagram posts Wilson shared in July 2024 that MacInnes claims suggested she experienced sexual harassment by Amanda Ghost, a producer on “The Deb.” Wilson had previously taken legal action against Ghost, alleging breach of contract and fraud. According to MacInnes, these posts damaged her professional reputation and standing. The core dispute involves an incident that allegedly occurred at Ghost’s Bondi Beach residence on September 5, 2023, following an evening swim. Wilson’s social media posts referenced “inappropriate behavior” during that night, while MacInnes later disputed this account, describing the encounter differently.
As part of her appeal, MacInnes is requesting a new trial with a different judge and seeking to overturn the requirement that she cover Wilson’s legal expenses.
