Autlook Filmsales has secured international distribution rights to Barbara Kopple’s latest documentary, “Union Town,” positioning the acclaimed filmmaker’s work prominently ahead of major festival debuts. The film will premiere globally at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival before traveling to Toronto International Film Festival for its North American launch.
“Union Town” explores the experiences of essential workers in New York City’s delivery sector, examining labor organizing across major corporations like UPS and Amazon as well as immigrant-led bike courier services. Shot over three years, the documentary investigates solidarity and power dynamics within modern labor movements, presenting personal narratives from those navigating these struggles.
In addition to the new feature, Autlook has acquired rights to Kopple’s two Academy Award-winning documentaries, “Harlan County USA” and “American Dream,” though the agreement excludes several English-speaking regions. Both classic films were recently restored in 4K and re-released theatrically in the United States.
Autlook Filmsales CEO Stephanie Fuchs praised Kopple’s commitment to amplifying workers’ voices throughout her career, emphasizing the company’s enthusiasm for representing her complete body of work. The acquisition demonstrates continued interest in documentary filmmaking that addresses labor and social issues relevant to contemporary audiences.
