Rolling Stone has unveiled its 2026 Spirit Awards, recognizing exceptional beverages across multiple categories including whiskey, gin, tequila, rum, vodka, sake, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options. The awards celebrate standout selections that captured the publication’s attention throughout the year, ranging from internationally aged spirits to innovative craft releases.
Among whiskey honorees, Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Normandie Calvados Brandy Barrel Finish took top overall honors. The blend features bourbons aged 12 to 13 years, finished in Calvados brandy barrels for 28 months, then toasted oak for an additional four months, creating a sophisticated profile with apple, vanilla, caramel, and spice notes. Four Roses’ Single Barrel OESQ earned best bourbon recognition for its floral characteristics and affordable price point under $50.
International entries made strong showings in the competition. Fettercairn’s 28-Year-Old Highland single malt earned best Scotch honors following its recent U.S. market introduction, while Midleton’s Very Rare 2026 vintage took Irish whiskey honors with its layered complexity. Japanese distillery Nikka’s From the Barrel Extra Marriage secured recognition for its blended whisky profile, which incorporates over 100 whiskies with extended aging periods.
Star Hill Farm Whisky received the coolest new brand designation, marking the first original mash bill from Maker’s Mark since 1953. The brand distinguishes itself through wheat varieties rather than traditional recipes, offering a lighter, brighter alternative within the whiskey market.
