Terra Industries, an African defense technology firm, has successfully closed an $52 million seed funding round, with the latest tranche adding $18 million to the total. The round includes backing from prominent investors such as 8VC, Silent Ventures, and Nova Global, signaling strong confidence in the company’s vision for the continent’s defense sector.
Since launching in 2024, Terra Industries has rapidly emerged as a significant player in African defense technology. The company focuses on developing autonomous systems and military equipment, including drones and mine-detecting combat vehicles designed to meet regional security needs. The startup projects substantial revenue generation by year-end, with plans to secure approximately $100 million in contracts, including government agreements.
Terra Industries plans to deploy the fresh capital toward expanding manufacturing operations across the Global South, establishing new offices in London, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., and accelerating hiring efforts. The company aims to address a critical gap in African defense infrastructure, where many nations have historically relied on suppliers from Western countries, Russia, or China. By positioning itself as a regional leader in military technology and critical infrastructure, Terra seeks to create a more stable and localized defense supply chain.
