Serbian telecommunications company Telekom Srbija is pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at establishing itself as a major force in global entertainment production. The company’s chief multimedia and content officer, Aleksandra Martinović, outlined plans to leverage Serbia’s growing prominence as a regional production hub while connecting with international partners to bring local content to worldwide audiences and attract foreign productions to the country.
Over the past decade, Telekom Srbija has demonstrated remarkable output, producing more than 300 titles including over 180 seasons of scripted drama. This growth reflects a broader production renaissance in Serbia, which has emerged as the Balkan region’s dominant film and television center since the breakup of Yugoslavia. The company is now shifting its approach to focus on fewer, higher-quality productions designed specifically for international distribution and partnerships, moving away from its traditional domestic-focused model.
Recent projects exemplify this strategic pivot, including the crime drama “Scar” with Spanish partners and the romantic dramedy “Crosscurrents,” a regional co-production involving Montenegro. The spy thriller “Civil Servant” has already found success on platforms including Disney+ Hotstar and Globoplay, while the English-language thriller “Sanctuary,” starring “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress Nina Kiri, marks the company’s most ambitious international venture to date.
Telekom Srbija is also strengthening its infrastructure through acquisitions and its MOVE streaming platform, described as a regional alternative to Netflix. Martinović emphasized the company’s commitment to comprehensive involvement across the entire production chain to establish Serbia as a competitive global entertainment destination.
