Anonymous Content has brought on Melbourne-based filmmaker Adrian Chiarella following competitive interest from multiple representation agencies. The signing comes as Chiarella gains industry momentum after his directorial feature debut, “Leviticus,” made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it received considerable acclaim from critics and industry observers.
“Leviticus” blends horror and queer storytelling, following two teenage boys whose relationship takes a tragic turn after experiencing a violent conversion therapy encounter. The narrative then shifts into supernatural territory as the characters are pursued by an otherworldly entity that manifests differently to each of them. The film found a distributor in Neon, which secured rights through a multi-million dollar agreement, and subsequently screened at additional festival venues before its theatrical release.
Chiarella has garnered recognition as an emerging talent within the Australian film industry, known for emotionally engaging narratives and genre-innovative approaches to storytelling. His previous work spans television productions including “Totally Completely Fine,” “Erotic Stories,” and “Five Bedrooms” across various platforms. In discussing his creative vision for “Leviticus,” Chiarella explained his desire to examine contemporary social challenges through the lens of horror cinema, a genre he views as uniquely suited to exploring fear and otherness.
The director maintains existing representation arrangements with additional agencies while adding Anonymous Content to his professional team.
