Spotify is introducing a new identification system designed to flag artificially generated music creators on its platform. Beginning in mid-September, accounts that appear to be AI-generated will receive an “AI Persona” label visible across artist profiles, search results, and playlist listings. The streaming giant plans to identify these accounts through a combination of artist self-disclosure and internal moderation using artificial intelligence tools.
The labeling initiative represents Spotify’s response to user concerns about encountering deceptive artist profiles. According to the company, listeners have expressed frustration discovering that seemingly human creators are actually AI-generated entities. The new badges will prevent these flagged accounts from benefiting from Spotify’s influential algorithmic recommendation system, potentially limiting their reach and visibility among users seeking authentic musical content.
Spotify emphasizes that transparency and authenticity form the foundation of artist-listener relationships in the music industry. The platform has previously implemented verification badges for human artists and introduced tools allowing listeners to understand how AI was utilized in specific recordings. This latest measure continues Spotify’s broader effort to combat proliferation of unauthorized content while simultaneously investing in AI technology itself through features like its conversational AI assistant and “AI DJ” functionality developed in partnership with major record labels.
