In a statement, Trey Parker and Matt Stone expressed regret over the extended timeline and thanked their collaborators at pgLang and Paramount for their understanding during the production process. The duo emphasized their continued commitment to bringing the film to completion.
The musical comedy, working under the title “Whitney Springs,” centers on a Black man employed as a historical reenactor at a museum who becomes entangled in conflict with a racist Midwestern town official. Reports indicate that Parker will take on the role of the antagonistic mayor, while Lamar has contributed original music to the soundtrack. The film is being produced through Parker and Stone’s Park County production banner in partnership with Lamar’s pgLang company.
The project’s extended development comes as the creators balance multiple commitments. Parker and Stone are simultaneously preparing the debut of “South Park” Season 29, following the show’s return after a hiatus. The pair has remained active with the long-running series, recently incorporating satirical commentary about current political figures into the program’s content.
