Sagar Pictures Entertainment has announced the launch of its ambitious seven-part theatrical franchise based on the “Bhagavata Mahapurana,” with the inaugural installment titled “Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata” set for worldwide release in 2027. The studio revealed a teaser poster for the project, which explores themes of devotion, dharma, and the spiritual connection between humanity and the divine, centering on Lord Shri Krishna.
The film is being co-directed by brothers Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, who serve as CEO and senior vice president of content at Sagar Pictures Entertainment, respectively. The pair are grandsons of filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, whose 1987 television adaptation of the “Ramayana” became a cultural touchstone for Indian audiences. The directors spent six years studying the sacred text before embarking on this cinematic interpretation, recognizing that the source material’s scope required an unprecedented visual approach.
Production on the film is nearing completion, with the studio emphasizing its commitment to grounding the adaptation in traditional devotional imagery while leveraging contemporary filmmaking technology. The directors stressed their intention to honor the sacred visual language audiences have encountered through paintings, sculptures, and religious iconography rather than reimagining these elements. The film will receive a global theatrical release across premium formats during 2027.
