Tennis legend Serena Williams will team up with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz for mixed doubles competition at the upcoming US Open, the US Tennis Association confirmed this weekend. The pairing marks a significant moment for both players, with Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, returning to the tournament for the first time since 2022 at age 44. Alcaraz, currently ranked second in the world, brings seven Grand Slam singles titles to the partnership.
The duo received one of three wildcard entries granted for the mixed doubles main draw. Williams previously won the mixed doubles title at the 1998 US Open alongside Max Mirnyi and is a six-time champion in the singles competition. The mixed doubles event will run from Tuesday through Wednesday at the National Tennis Center, preceding the start of the main US Open draw on August 30.
Other wildcard recipients for mixed doubles include Czech pair Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik, as well as Americans Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul. Recent withdrawals by Jack Draper and Daniil Medvedev created opportunities for their former partners to secure spots in the competition. Williams recently competed in women’s doubles with her sister Venus at Cincinnati, though the pair was eliminated in the opening round.
