Robert Pattinson’s latest thriller “Primetime” received a roaring welcome at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, drawing an impressive seven-minute standing ovation from attendees. The film features Pattinson in the lead role as Chris Hansen, the renowned television personality known for hosting “To Catch a Predator.” The actor’s compelling portrayal of Hansen earned particular recognition as the crowd’s enthusiasm continued to build throughout the extended applause.
Pattinson’s partner Suki Waterhouse was among the most vocal supporters in attendance, enthusiastically cheering from the audience balcony reserved for performers’ guests. As the ovation stretched into its sixth minute, she leaned forward to kiss Pattinson on the lips, while the crowd simultaneously began calling for director Lance Oppenheim and actress Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her acting debut in the film. The production also stars Skyler Gisondo and Merritt Wever.
Outside the venue, crowds gathered to celebrate Pattinson, chanting his name while temperatures soared on the Italian island. Despite the festival’s positive reception, Chris Hansen has publicly criticized the film, calling Pattinson’s interpretation “overly dramatic” and emphasizing that the movie is a work of fiction rather than a factual account. A24 will release “Primetime” in theaters on September 25.
