The Prince Estate has released a new posthumous album called Timeless, which compiles previously unheard recordings spanning multiple decades of the legendary artist’s career. The collection features standout tracks including a 1977 home recording, an early version of a song later given to the Time, a piano ballad Prince composed for Celine Dion, and a 2012 recording that surprised fans with its existence.
Co-manager L. Londell McMillan addressed criticism from impatient fans regarding the pace of vault releases, noting that the estate has already made available nearly 200 previously unreleased recordings since Prince’s 2016 death. McMillan emphasized that while some fans express frustration, many others have remained patient and appreciative of the estate’s approach to carefully managing the artist’s extensive catalog.
The estate has pursued various projects beyond music releases, including expanded versions of classic albums featuring vault material and a finished but previously unreleased 2010 album. However, the estate faced controversy when Netflix shelved a documentary after objections to content depicting Prince in a negative light, drawing intense protest from the film’s director.
McMillan, who served as Prince’s attorney for over a decade, defended the estate’s measured strategy, arguing that the volume of material released demonstrates substantial output while maintaining what he describes as appropriate stewardship of Prince’s legacy and artistic vision.
