Disney+ and the Pokémon Company International have finalized a comprehensive global distribution agreement that encompasses existing programming and upcoming original content. The partnership marks a significant expansion of their collaboration, with the streaming service now positioned as the primary home for Pokémon entertainment across multiple regions and platforms.
The first project to launch under this new deal was “Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,” which recently premiered on Disney XD before becoming available to stream on Disney+ in the United States and select international territories. The series follows the adventures of Ash and Pikachu as they explore the Pokémon universe.
Building on this foundation, the companies will introduce “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu” in 2027, a stop-motion animated series developed in collaboration with acclaimed animation studio Aardman. The show will feature the titular characters embarking on a quest through the Galar Region, encountering various Pokémon and challenges along their journey. The series will premiere on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney+.
The announcement was made during a panel at Pokémon XP, an industry event currently taking place in San Francisco. Disney executives highlighted the franchise’s enduring appeal to longtime fans while maintaining relevance with younger audiences, positioning the new content as valuable additions to both the Disney XD channel and Disney+ platform.
