Warner Bros.’ “Practical Magic 2” has claimed the top position at the U.K. and Ireland box office during its opening weekend, earning £2.7 million ($3.7 million). The supernatural sequel successfully ended a six-week run at the summit by “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which has since dropped to fifth place.
Disney’s documentary “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger” secured second position in its debut frame with $3.5 million, while 20th Century Fox’s thriller “Pressure” completed the top three new releases with $2.7 million. Universal’s “The Odyssey” maintained fourth place during its ninth week in theaters, collecting $1.2 million and bringing its cumulative total to $114.3 million.
Despite falling from first place, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” continues to perform impressively on the regional charts. The superhero blockbuster has now accumulated $132.7 million, securing the third-highest position on the all-time U.K. and Ireland box office chart, surpassing notable films including “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Avatar.” Only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Skyfall” rank higher on the historic list.
Several new releases filled lower chart positions, including Signature Entertainment’s survival film “Fall 2” at sixth place and Sony’s horror sequel “Insidious: Out of the Further” in seventh. The coming weekend will see major commercial releases including Sony’s “Resident Evil” and Paramount’s “Bad Apples,” alongside various specialty and documentary offerings.
