A Nordic drama production featuring creative talent across Finland, Germany, and Sweden has moved forward with backing from major broadcasters. Gutsy Pictures, led by producer Marika Makaroff, partnered with MTV Finland to develop the psychological thriller series “Dangerous Woman,” which will also involve co-producers Zeitsprung and Götafilm. Swedish broadcaster TV4 has already secured rights to the six-episode project, which will be helmed by director Zaida Bergroth, known for the acclaimed film “Tove.”
The series centers on Laura, a middle-aged professional whose violent outburst at a public event sets off a chain of revelations. As authorities investigate, her concealed past emerges, connecting her to an unsolved murder and a false identity she has maintained for years. The narrative unfolds across multiple timelines, gradually challenging viewers’ assumptions about where true danger originates. BAFTA-winning writer Kevin Rundle joins the creative team after previously collaborating with Gutsy Pictures on “L/Over,” which became one of MTV’s most successful recent offerings.
Makaroff described her decade-long vision for the story, noting that contemporary society prompted her to finally pursue the project. She explained that the series blends dark comedy with psychological tension and social commentary while ultimately exploring themes of compassion and redemption. The production explores whether violence can ever be justified and examines what happens when victimized individuals reach their breaking point. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year, with the completed series slated for presentation at Barcelona’s Serielizados Pro industry event in October.
