The Spartans dominated Triad with a 51-14 performance, showcasing versatility through quarterback Weston Shaffer’s dual-threat abilities. Shaffer completed nine of ten pass attempts for 114 yards and three touchdowns while accumulating 389 rushing yards and three additional scores on 24 carries. Multiple Pleasant receivers found the end zone, including Keean Perriguey with three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Mount Gilead’s defensive and offensive performance secured a 27-25 thriller against Upper Sandusky after the Indians built commanding leads of 19-0 and 27-3. The ground-based attack accumulated 366 total yards, with Tyler Harr rushing for 133 yards and a score, Boe Sayers contributing 122 yards and a touchdown, and Wyatt Long adding 94 yards with two scores. Kadin St. Clair anchored the defense with 12 tackles, two for loss, one sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
Coach Mike Reid praised his team’s resilience following the previous week’s 42-19 defeat, noting the squad displayed exceptional heart and character. Several other Marion-area programs also notched victories in Week 2, including Ashland defeating Marion Harding 27-13, Madison Comprehensive edging River Valley 41-12, and Mohawk routing Cardington-Lincoln 56-14.
