The Kansas City Chiefs released their initial injury report ahead of Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes among eight players requiring monitoring. Despite being listed with a knee concern, Mahomes participated without restrictions during Thursday’s practice session, signaling his readiness for the Monday night contest. Several other offensive and defensive contributors also took part in the full practice without limitations.
The injury report featured a mix of upper and lower body issues across the roster. Offensive players Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice both appeared on the list with shoulder and knee problems respectively, while guard Trey Smith dealt with a hip injury. On the defensive side, Ashton Gillotte, R Mason Thomas, Jack Cochrane, and L’Jarius Sneed all received designations for various ailments ranging from foot to hamstring concerns.
However, two key contributors were unavailable for practice entirely. Left tackle Josh Simmons sat out with a back issue, while safety Chamarri Conner missed work due to a knee problem. Both players are considered unlikely to participate in the season opener, according to the injury assessment.
Gillotte’s status draws particular attention given his recent recovery from a ruptured plantar fascia suffered during training camp, which sidelined him through the entire preseason. His availability could influence defensive line deployment decisions as the Chiefs prepare for their divisional rival.
