The Green Bay Packers have completed a trade sending backup quarterback Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins, with the Packers receiving a sixth-round draft selection scheduled for 2028 in return. The deal was confirmed by sources close to the team on Sunday morning.
Miami pursued McCord after trading away Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this offseason. The Dolphins needed depth at the quarterback position to support starter Malik Willis following their roster adjustments ahead of the cutdown deadline.
McCord had impressed during Green Bay’s preseason finale against Arizona on Friday, throwing four touchdown passes in a 42-38 victory. Despite his strong performance, the second-year quarterback out of Syracuse was unable to secure a roster spot with the Packers, who have Jordan Love as their starter and veteran Tyrod Taylor serving as backup.
The transaction resolves the backup quarterback situation for Miami while allowing Green Bay to add future draft capital. McCord will join the Dolphins organization as they finalize their 53-man roster ahead of the regular season.
