The 2026 Ohio high school football season is launching this week across the greater Akron region. Two teams will begin their campaigns Thursday, August 20, with Garfield traveling to Norton and Archbishop Hoban heading to Florida to face West Orange in nonconference matchups.
The bulk of the area’s opening games commence Friday, August 21, featuring an extensive slate of contests. Teams competing include Buchtel, East, Ellet, Firestone, North, Walsh Jesuit, Hudson, Medina, Stow, Nordonia, Kent Roosevelt, Wadsworth, Streetsboro, Woodridge, Coventry, CVCA, Cuyahoga Falls, Green, Rocky River, Springfield, and Mogadore, among others. Nearly all games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
This marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting season for high school football in the Akron area. Fans can expect comprehensive coverage of all Week 1 action throughout the coming days as teams take the field for their first regular-season contests.
