The New York Times has partnered with The Athletic to create a sports-focused version of its popular daily word puzzle game. This variant challenges players to identify connections between 16 words organized into four distinct categories, with difficulty levels indicated by color coding from yellow (easiest) to purple (most challenging).
Today’s puzzle, the 710th edition, features four thematic groupings centered on football and athletics. Players must identify pre-game football activities, recognize California sports facilities, spot notable alumni from the University of Miami, and distinguish words that begin with state capital names. The solutions include pre-kickoff events such as coin tosses and national anthems, well-known West Coast venues, former Hurricanes football players, and terms starting with state capitals.
Like its predecessor Wordle, Connections Sports Edition resets daily with increasingly difficult word combinations. Players receive up to four incorrect attempts before losing, though they can rearrange the board to help identify patterns. Successfully grouping all four correct words removes them from play. The puzzle can be accessed on web browsers and mobile devices, allowing fans to test their sports knowledge while engaging with an entertaining word game format.
