British actor and “Doctor Who” star Noel Clarke has been formally charged with multiple sexual offenses. The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the Metropolitan Police to proceed with charges including sexual assault, voyeurism and exposure, following a review of evidence submitted by detectives. The charges emerge nearly a year after Clarke’s arrest at his London residence in September 2025, when police conducted a search of his home.
The criminal charges follow a significant legal defeat for Clarke in August 2025, when he lost a libel case against The Guardian newspaper. Clarke had sued the publication over its 2021 investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, which included accounts from more than 20 women. During the trial, over a dozen women provided testimony about their experiences, with Clarke denying all claims of inappropriate behavior. He was ordered to pay £3 million in legal costs to the newspaper.
Guardian editor-in-chief Katharine Viner commented on the trial outcome at the time, praising the women who testified despite the difficulties involved. The formal charges now represent a separate legal proceeding in criminal court, distinct from the civil libel case previously decided.
