Actor Noah Wyle expressed skepticism regarding David Ellison’s stated intention to relocate Paramount Pictures from California. Speaking at an HBO Max Emmy event in Los Angeles, Wyle suggested the executive’s relocation threat may be a negotiating tactic rather than a genuine business plan. He emphasized that such a move would create significant friction within the entertainment industry, questioning the wisdom of removing a major studio from the region synonymous with filmmaking.
Ellison has indicated he is prepared to begin moving Paramount out of California as early as October unless a settlement is reached concerning a proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. The state’s attorney general, Rob Bonta, is involved in discussions around the deal, which has also faced antitrust challenges from twelve states. Paramount is reportedly considering alternative locations including Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee for its operations.
Wyle, who stars in the HBO series “The Pitt,” which films at Warner Bros.’ Burbank lot, acknowledged uncertainty about the merger’s ultimate resolution. He previously testified before California lawmakers in support of state tax incentives for entertainment production, citing how his show’s first season generated 600 jobs and contributed $125 million to the state’s economy. The actor admitted that conflicting reports and rumors make predicting the outcome difficult.
