Despite the Knicks’ success, Tsai remains committed to the Nets’ long-term rebuilding strategy. The team finished last season with a 20-62 record, the third-lowest in the league, resulting in the sixth overall draft pick used on point guard Mikal Brown. Additionally, second-year player Egor Dёmin showed encouraging progress during Summer League, suggesting potential for growth in the coming season.
The Nets also bolstered their roster through an offseason trade acquiring power forward Julius Randle from Minnesota. The four-team transaction, which sent LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves, brought in a reliable scorer averaging over 21 points per game along with 6.7 rebounds and 5 assists annually.
