Netflix has released a trailer and promotional images for its upcoming sequel series based on the classic sitcom “A Different World.” The new installment returns to Hillman College, the fictional historically Black university that served as the setting for the original NBC comedy, which aired from 1987 to 1993 as a spin-off of “The Cosby Show.”
The sequel reunites original cast members Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison in their iconic roles as Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne. The pair’s youngest daughter, Deborah, takes center stage as a freshman beginning her own college journey at Hillman. As she establishes herself on campus and forms meaningful friendships, her parents draw on their own experiences as alumni to guide her through this pivotal chapter.
The expanded cast includes several new actors alongside returning original series stars Darryl M. Bell, Debbie Allen, Cree Summer, Jeniffer Lewis and Jada Pinkett Smith. Felicia Pride serves as showrunner and executive producer, while Allen returns to direct and produce the premiere. The creative team also includes Tom Werner, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Mandy Summers as executive producers.
