The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has appointed filmmaker Sean Baker and producer Samantha Quan as co-chairs of the newly established Marquee Theater Committee. The committee holds responsibility for evaluating theater submissions and determining which venues should receive recognition on the Academy Marquee Theater List. This announcement was made alongside the naming of additional leadership positions for committees and affinity groups serving during the 2026-27 term.
Baker, who recently achieved significant recognition in the film industry, will contribute his expertise alongside Quan in overseeing the committee’s operations. Committee members will serve one-year terms as part of the Academy’s broader governance structure. These leadership positions support the organization’s various initiatives and help shape institutional policies affecting its membership base.
Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor and CEO Bill Kramer expressed gratitude for the commitment demonstrated by incoming chairs and vice chairs. The Academy emphasized that the selection of experienced leaders across its committees strengthens the organization’s ability to fulfill its mission while preparing for future challenges. The committees and affinity groups function as member-led bodies designed to advance key Academy priorities while addressing the needs and interests of its diverse membership across multiple disciplines in film production.
